More Dice
Oh yes, after running a couple games: Minis/flags for doors, openings, and chests would be awesome! Don't know how hard that is to implement. Basically, I've been renaming orcs, spiders, and goblins to be: doors, holes in walls, crevices, treasure chests, pedestals, and so forth.
Easier idea: a 'flag' icon which basically means: read description for what this is (different colors?). That way, players would know immediately it's not a monster or something and you could use table info to say red is for doors, blue for chests, etc. Also, by far the best virtual tabletop website I've seen. Kudos!
Hi David, thanks and welcome to the site. =)
Regarding more dice, this is something people often request, but it doesn't really fit in with the main intent of the site. The interface and mechanics are all designed with chat-based roleplaying in mind, and most offline systems would not work that well without adding a lot of complexity. Also regarding minis, I don't know if you've already seen, but in the Advanced mode (which I see you have) there are minis for chests, generic markers, etc that you can re-color like any other mini. Things like pedastals and holes can be created pretty quickly by editing the battlemat itself. Hope that helps.
Hey Frost,
Yeah, that's totally awesome. Thanks so much! I appreciate your taking the time to check out my ideas. I guess my request probably seemed pretty silly considering you already implemented all that stuff. I guess I just didn't see it in the heat of a game. We had 5-6 players at one point there. :) I understand your point with the dice. That's what I kind of figured when I explained it to a few of my players/fans. I had been thinking even if there was a d20 option, I would probably modify existing games to make them more text friendly. I've been running all kinds of text games over the years so I know how they operate (and cease to operate). You're 100% correct in keeping it simple and focused. Would you mind if I linked to Fabletop from my website? All the Best, --David Please log in to add a comment. |

I just came across Fabletop 2 days ago and I think it's the best virtual tabletop application I've seen. It's very well put together and easy to use.
That said, there are a couple things I think would be neat to have:
1. optional d20 or other dice (D% comes to mind). While the fabletop default rules are awesome, simply adding an optional d20 would open up the game to such huge fan bases as: D&D, Gurps, Savage Worlds, and practically all role-playing games. It's just a thought.
2. Option for shorter games. I realize any legitimate game will probably run for at least 2 hours and 1 hour of prep is great. Sometimes, people are just impatient or have only 5 minutes to spare. That's part of the advantage of computers.
Thanks for reading, and kudos on such a great virtual tabletop!
