Diesel & Magic: Tortured Skies

pyrak May '18  /  edited May '18
Lore (okay, guess this turned into someone's speech but it gives some lore at least)

Times change and technology advance, it is the dawn of a new era as mankind step beyond what he once knew and plunders into the unknowns of tomorrow. Once the skies were only owned by the birds and those few that could use magic to fly. However machines have changed that. first came the steam driven airship, a pioneer's and sightseer's dream come true, but by no means a sturdy war machine or a means of transporting goods across the vast distances. But that all changed when the diesel powered engine was first made. A machine which took much less fuel and provided much more energy, it is what made the modern airship possible.

Story Thus Far
A sorceress named Alexandria was transported across time and space, away from her home (a Dungeon filled medieval but magically advanced world) and soulmate lover, to a new world where oil drove machines, ships flew the skies and thunderous cannons decimated battlefields. Whether by fortune or misfortune she ended up in the closet/armory of the infamous Good Overlord Hadisorn. After her discovery, the circumstances were explained and Hadisorn mustered a small crew of odd but proficient fighters who's job was to guard her while she travels across international (and nationless) skies to the College of Immortal Archives. To assure the safest possible travel, despite route and destination location being not so, he called in a favor from an excellent airship captain by the name of Serilda who's one of the few willing and capable of going to the College.

After a slightly rocky start involving the guardians and Alex having to find her in a bar, Shield and Jorn trying to crush Serilda's mug (which actually was the not very legendary Nigh-Indestructible Mug), and Serilda putting a well deserved bullet hole in Shield's chassis, the oddball crew head to Serilda's airship, the Black Pelican. While Serilda gets the ship going, her Steward, Hal Dunbey, toured the rest of the group around the ship.

Important People and Places

College of Immortal Archives: The College of Immortal Archives is a city which has many legends and myths about it spread across the world. It is the heart of the world's knowledge and progress where countless inventions and discoveries have been made. Despite all its upsides, it has several demerits, all of which are byproducts of the inventions and discoveries made. The most notable one is the Storm Shroud. The Storm Shroud is massive storm around the college which is the byproduct of someone making a weather controlling machine which worked well enough to cover the city but turns the surrounding area into a massive storm that most sailors won't risk entering. Because of that the only ones who enter and leave the city are those with means of diverting the artificial storm from their path and the true daredevils who will plunge into storms with a grin on their face (or fools just to prove their bravery).

Hadisorn: He is a Half-giant warlord currently keeping using his large military force to hold what can only be described as nightmares and terrors beyond understanding who continuously assault civilization from the West. He maintains rule, with an iron, but benevolent, fist, over most of the Western continent (and content with not contesting the Dragons over the rest of it). He was the first person (of importance) to encounter Alexandria and made the decision to send her off to the College of Immortal Archives. Despite being a massive warrior and dictator, he's surprisingly easy going and lets the small things in life be the small things in life.

The Airship
Black Pelican spikedmcgrath.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/...
like the above however no topside guns and has two rows of 3 cannon ports on the flanks.

The Black Pelican's hull is an old model armored patrol boat designed in the early days of the military's anti air piratism development. Even though she's of an older make she'll still out power most other non-military vessels thanks to her thick hull and powerful engines. Like many older vessels she doesn't have turrets but instead gunports which leaves her vulnerable from an angle but packing powerful punch when she brings a flank to bare.

Crew:
Serilda Richter (Captain, ladysarin's character)
Hal Dunbey (half-elf Steward)
Anonymous non-minature'd NPC crew mooks.
Cargo:
- Characters aside from Serilda
- lots of munitions for the cannons

Combat Stats:
Broadsides: 6 Cannons
Chase guns: 4 Cannons
Speed: Fast (out of Drifter, Slow, Medium, Fast, Racer)
Hull Points: 10/10
Armor: 2

Currency: Ken
Made from specially treated dragon scales since that's very hard to replicate. Mostly it's because dragons have learned that the easiest way to get shiny things and not get lesser beings angry at you is to give things in return that they find valuable. The Ken has the image of a dragon and it's value on one side and the creating dragon's "signature" on the other side.

Before the Dragon Elder decided to make rules on the making of Ken for the time between their invention (by a lazy dragon no less) there was a inflation of regular dragon scales on the market. Now days they're pretty well regulated, and all the dragons make a profit off of providing them.

Other Unsorted Things

Leveling: 400 xp thing + 30 xp thing (will polish this up later)

Character Creation
Fabletop Standard setup (if you don't know it, go read how to play), custom traits are allowed. Additionally you may have up to three character abilities.

Abilities can be anything within reason (that I approve of), whether they're passive activated or something else not one of those two. Activated abilities need to have a cost unless they're like the regular version of a standard action with a small benefit (note: spell casting needs to be made as abilities rather than as a standard attack). As a rule of thumb, attack abilities that cost 1 Power should be the equivalent of doing an extra action (double attack or damage, bonus damage over time, etc). - Stun abilities either need to be prohibitively costly or have some inherent weakness, such as the target not being able to take damage and the likes. - No passive Power or Life gain (triggered may be acceptable). Be creative and be wild.
