deep within the savannah of Dragoncroft, three day's journey from the ancient city of Somakeed, in an oasis.

From the north walks a man. After three days without water his body is nearly at the point of failure, but his spirit burns bright. Aramil did not spend years seeking enlightenment only to die in the middle of nowhere. He knows he can make it through this. His god has raised him from the depths of despair, and reforged him in the fires of the divine. This is not where his story ends. Reaching the top of a hill, he spots the oasis, and breaks into a desperate sprint. He collapses on its banks and begins to pool handfuls of cool, crisp water into his mouth.

The Green-Skin on the southern bank of the oasis pulls a bandanna up over his face. It is never clear how a human like this will react to him. But, there is no immediate danger - the human is on the other side of the oasis, and quite dehydrated. If Cathros needs to flee from here he can, or his chances of over powering the human are quite high. But, hopefully it will not come to this, and Cathros gets the feeling that this is no ordinary man.

--

Cathros ducks into some tall grass around the oasis, trying to hide from Aramil's sight. As the mage finishes drinking the cool crisp water, he easy spots the bright purple cloak of the Wanderer amongst the green grass.

--

Cathros maintains eye contact with the human, as he knows he's been already spotted. Maybe he should have left his robe to the camel. He makes his way up to the dune, keeping his hands raised, scimitar ready behind his back. He tries to speak, but Aramil won't probably understand. "Peace. Peace. No harm."

This specific phrase 'peace' is easy to communicate across a language barrier. The names of the gods stay consistent across all languages and Cathros speaks the name of the goddess of peace; "Terrox." the green-skin says in a calm voice, and the man seems to understand him.

Even with his robe to disguise him, the keen eyed fire mage spots that his companion at the oasis is a Green-Skin.

The human leaves the Oasis without a word. Cathros wanders if he will see him again...

The next few weeks of the Wanderer's life pass without much interest. After a few more days in the desert, desperate need to restock on water forces Cathros into the city of Sokameed. This settlement is on the outskirts of the Crowdorian empire, and sees little presence from its masters. Most people here have masks, scarves and hoods to protect from the sand anyway. He soon realises he isn't the only Wanderer in the city, and several of his kin are living here, being careful not to draw attention to themselves.

Whilst haggling for water with a Sondreki merchant, Cathros is approached by a tall, slender Nordreen male. Wearing white robes to protect him from the sun and wearing an eyepatch over his left eye.
"Is that your camel?" he asks quietly, in the dark tongue. "I'm looking for a guide to take me across the desert. I'm paying six shillings for a ten day trip. If you're coming meet me at the tavern across the street there this evening."

---

Meanwhile, a network of criminals known as The Rogue's Guild have sent the following written contract to Zalnin, offering unusually large pay for a mysterious task, it is not his usual sort of work and it's a pleasant surprise to see an opportunity to make significant money without murder.

Thief, Burglar or Dungeoneer of magical ability wanted to raid lost elven temple in the Dragoncroft desert.

Meet with an old friend of the guild at The Last Dragon tavern in Sakameed. Nordreen Male. five-foot-eight. black hair. wears an eye-patch over left eye.

Pay is one pound and five shillings.

After their first day's journey, the party wake up in the early morning to continue their journey whilst the sands are still cool. Cathros has another look at the Elven Map, and plans their route for today. The most direct route would be across the savannah, where he can also find more fresh water. If however, the party wish to avoid wild life, they might take a slightly longer path through the desert, and drink smaller water rations. The wanderer turns to Zalnin to ask his opinion

Cathros returns from a watering hole, carrying an antelope. The parties food supplies are replenished, and they press on.

The party are about two days from their destination when they come across a large river that blocks further passage along their route. It was not marked on the ancient map, and Cathros has never come this far south. The river appears to be about four foot deep and twenty five feet wide. this would be bad enough, but the swimming crocodiles make it a lot worse.

"Well..." Says Daniel. "Any suggestions for getting the camel across?"
elderprince Feb '19
"This sure looks fun"... says Zalnin.
--turns to the rest of the party--
maybe we can try and build a raft then scare the crocodiles away with something?
--turns to Cathros--
I wonder, are crocodiles scared of fire or some such item that we can easily attain?
--scans the area for logs and sticks to ams a raft out of--

Zalnin skims the surrounding savannah. There are some thin-branched trees around here, but it would take an awfully long time to gather enough up to make a raft that could support the party's weight. Even then, a loaded camel would be likely to sink it.

Oo I guess I'll have to come up with another idea...
--walks over towards some dry twigs and lights them on fire--
Maybe if we scare we away the crocodiles we can drift across?
I know that crocodile hierarchy is based upon whoever is the biggest and the strongest. If we can manage to taunt the leader and kill him the others will be forced to leave us alone!
--He beckons Cathros over to help him, and then builds a large bonfire and begins to set it near the water, yelling furiously at the crocodiles attempting to scare them away and taunt their leader--

Oo If this doesn't work then we'll have to ditch the camel

Zalnin has never encountered a crocodile before, and doesn't know the following important information;

-because Crocodiles are cold blooded, they have more energy when it is warm.
-because they are apex predators, they respond to being attacked with a counter attack.

The bonfire and loud noises get the crocodiles active and alert, and they come onto land to attack the party!

Daniel sighs and reaches for his Halberd.

"I don't think a fire was the right idea Zalnin..."

(This is now a combat encounter and must be resolved through live play)
