Magic in its purest form consists of Essence, the blood of a Mystic thought to be touched by the very gods themselves. However, the existence of a pure form of magic implies the existence of *other* forms. Ritualists are individuals who have no power of their own, but through sacrificing their lives, little by little, they borrow from the planet herself.

The earliest Ritualists were thought to be Mystics or deities. Their powers were unheard of, and the outcome of their spells was devastating. Over time, the use of communing with Zaelia for power was vilified in much of the world, but in certain cultures it thrived. Zaelia is eager to bargain for her power, and those who seek it do not have to travel far. After an initial encounter, a Ritualist may continually trust that the planet will heed their calls, so long as they give something in return.

Borrowed Power & Sacrifices

Ritualists must give blood in order to gain power from Zaelia. Initiation to this lifestyle involves seeking out an existing Ritualist, traveling to a shrine, or constructing one yourself. Once an agreement has been struck, a Ritualist may borrow power at any time by use of blood. There has been much experimentation over the years due to the wild nature of the practice, but little documentation due to the near-global hatred for it. Sacrificing to Zaelia is a painful process. Many Ritualists are adept in wound care because of this. Most Ritualists are not impressive fighters, thieves. But with the help of Zaelia, anyone can rise to greatness.

_____
PACT OF THE SUPPLICANT

The Supplicant is one who uses his blood to obtain power: the greater an offering, the greater the power given by Zaelia. Outside of battle, a Supplicant may curry favor through blood magic to gain knowledge or resources. In a fight, a Supplicant will inflict self mutilation in various forms to force foes into submission. The pact with Zaelia stands so long as the Supplicant does not die.

Mystics may never contain a pool of PP equal to or greater than their pool of HP. (Starting example: If you begin with 6 points for HP/PP, you must have a 4/2 build and cannot increase PP to 3 until your next level.)

Ritualists must declare the amount of HP used by flavored narration in combat. Using "light" to describe a sacrifice or offering implies 1 HP. Using "heavy" to describe a sacrifice or offering implies 2 HP. "Severe" implies 3 HP. "Fatal" implies 4 HP. A Ritualist may not spend more than 4 HP in a single ritual; furthermore, hitting the 4 HP cap requires an endurance check of 2 stars to remain conscious.

Ritualists may employ the following in combat or in quests:
= Martial Weapons, One-handed ONLY (must contain cutting element)
= Armor, Light ONLY
= Shields, NONE
