- TT Rating: The Turing Test Rating of a robot is a number from 1 to 10 which evaluates how successful the machine is at imitating human interaction. With 1 being very clearly a machine, and 10 being human without doubt. Only 45% of actual humans consistently score a 10, and no robot has scored over 8. - AO Rating: The Autonomous Operations Rating of a robot is a number from 1 to 5 which evaluates its capacity for carrying out tasks without external input or of its own initiative. With 1 being it requiring explicit instructions for each activity, and 5 being capable of predicting future problems or needs and pre-emptively carrying out related tasks. There are very few robots that are AO:5. - IM: Industrial Machine. A shorthand phrase to describe the broad purpose and functionality of a robot used for industrial applications. - CM: Commercial Machine. A shorthand phrase to describe the broad purpose and functionality of a robot used for commercial applications. - DM: Domestic Machine. A shorthand phrase to describe the broad purpose and functionality of a robot used for domestic applications.
=== Standard Equipment ===
The police of Atlantic 1 are not normally permitted to carry firearms, save for a special selection of firearms officers for dangerous and counter-terrorist situations. However, Section 5 is allowed to carry a limited batch of firearms. The minimum possible firepower for them to be able to do their jobs. The standard equipment carried by a Section 5 officer is: - A .357 revolver - Telescopic electro-baton Furthermore, in the event of an emergency with special permission from HQ, officers are permitted to use a 12 gauge shotgun that is carried in the patrol car. This is loaded with special Armour Piercing Tungsten Slugs, designed to bring down large and armoured robots. The use of this weapon is, however, heavily restricted. As such it is rarely used. It is the year 209X, a vast variety of robots are commercially available for industrial, commercial and domestic applications. 99% of all robots function perfectly.

- 2060: First wave of artificial island cities has completed construction. Robots are now commonplace in most domestic and commercial settings.
- 2073: Second wave of artificial island cities completed construction.
- 2074: Oil crisis reaches boiling point after months of energy riots. An official push is made by world governments to switch fully to renewable and nuclear energy.
- 2088: Expansion of first wave cities is approved.
