Abdication City: Quests

oman1666 Dec '14  /  edited Jun '17
===West Minster City===

West Minster City - built in and around the former houses of parliament (otherwise known as West Minster Palace) are an anarchist community living together under no laws. The settlement was founded shortly after the bombs fell and no reply was heard from the monarch. The people of London turned on their government, who had supported the war that led to the end of the world, and they were slaughtered for it. The settlement and defacement of their government's seat stand to this day in protest, and as in warning, of putting trust in any politic figure and allowing them to make decisions on your behalf. Being a lawless place, everyone in the city is armed and many of the more wealthy residents have mercenaries in their employ. Because of this, crime rates are surprisingly low. After all, instead of knowing you'll be fined or put in prison for stealing, you could be shot on the spot. The lack of laws also means West Minster is by far the most metropolitan settlement in Abdication City with Ghouls, Humans, Super Mutants and other races all coming and going to trade. As an anarchy, the city agrees on very few issues, other than '%#@& people with systems of power' and 'the city should be kept safe'. West Minster City is also home of the Loaded Shotgun, where you get most of your work, so be careful not to annoy the city's residents too badly unless you've already found employment elsewhere.

Part Needed! (Part 1 of a series)
I'm after a very rare part. I know exactly where to find it, but don't have the skills needed to go trudging across the wastes and come back with my head still attached. I'll attach a map below this posting, if you can get to the pre-war facility I've out-lined and bring back the specialist gas filters I'll happily pay 250 caps for them.
-Thanks in advance, Dr. Maxwell Holmes.

King of the Wastes (Repeatable, PvP)
Think you're the biggest, baddest, toughest son of %#&@ that the wastes have ever seen? Prove it. Come down to the arena and put your money where your mouth is. There aren't many rules. Unlimited combat with all races and some wasteland creatures. Take drugs, blow stuff up, we don't care. Only rules you have to stick to are; 1) no attacking spectators. 2) If your opponent's out cold or says 'I quit' the fight's over. Break these rules and you're not coming back. There are several heats, open to all, which can qualify you for ranked one-on-one matches with some of the higher ups.

Charity Appeal (Passive)
Look. Some of us have a lot, some of us have nothing at all, that's just the way of the world. If you're one of the people in this city with some wealth stashed away, and you could donate a few bottles of water for us to distribute to those in need, we'd appreciate it. Just hand your bottles into McGraw.

===The Highland Water Company===

"Citizen of Abdication City, you are thirsty. Everyone gets thirsty. But you rain is radioactive, your lakes and ponds diseased, your great river shrivelled and shrunk, surrounded by foulness. Do not fear, Abdication City. the HWC are here. We collect cool, pure, fresh water from the finest springs of the Scottish Highlands, and use our radiation resistant Ghoulish merchants to transport it specially to you." This is the official stance of the HWC, but there are no end of dodgy stories underneath the surface. The company know the city is desperate, and seem determined to bring it to its knees and bleed it dry. People who get into debts with the HWC have their homes raided and often turn up dead, and with less organs than one might expect. Highland Water are ruthless if you cross them, but can provided a good career and clean, fresh water to their friends. Ghouls are particularly welcome in their employ, as they are the ones who can make the long journey from London to Scotland unharmed by the miles of radiation between.

-Malachi 'Mad Dog' McKenzie
-Shania Lang

We are willing to pay EACH caravan guard 80 caps or supply them with a generous amount of purified water. SERIOUS APPLICANTS ONLY. The Scar is very dangerous and we will not risk loosing this trade route.

=== The Brotherhood of Steel ===

The Brotherhood of Steel arrived just five years ago, making them the newest faction in the city. Their technology was beyond anything the city could imagine as Vertibirds landed and power armour wearing, minigun wilding, elite troops clambered out. No one is really sure why these Americans are in the city. But they don't seem to like New Parliament very much. They are a secretive and closed off organisation, but the technology they can access is almost unparalleled. Once in a while however, even they need a mercenary.

===Solomon's Kingdom===

Amongst the super mutants, one of their rank has risen to power over a large and loyal group, but Solomon will not stop there. He has declared himself King and lays claim to the throne of England. His claim however, is a good one; When a select few Vaults were built in London the first five-hundred people in line for the throne retreated into Buckingham palace, and the Vault-Tech door was closed behind them; Solomon was number 501 in succession. Kicking up a fuss at the missed vault slot, he was offered accommodation in another Vault, where he was exposed to the Force Evolutionary Virus. Now a Super Mutant, and with no one else laying claim to the throne, Solomon is determined to be recognized as the King of England. He is generous and grateful to anyone who acknowledges him thusly.

Hidden Blues (one shot)
Greetings fellow wastelanders, on behalf of King Solomon, I bestow a task; on the outskirts of the city is an abandoned military facility, where we believe a stealth boy cache is to be found. Some of my dear Night Kin friends would greatly appreciate it if these were retrieved and sold to the Kingdom. We will pay the normal market value of 50 caps per stealthboy retrieved, and will throw in the added incentive of the privilege of... --the sentence 'not being ground in paste, inferior human scum' written in beautiful cursive has been crossed out--... beginning to network with his majesty the King of England

===The Slavers===

The Slavers. Evil, immoral, hated scum of the wastes. They love what they do. Forcibly capturing people to enslave and sell, they get rich off the misery of the world. Operating out of their base at Slaver's Eye, they are a group usually avoided. If you cross them, you may end up in chains, if you work for them, you're going down a dark path.

Lost Property (one shot, potential player conflict/pvp)
We've lost some property. It is holed up in some shack in the middle of a bomb crater. Whole thing surrounded with land mines. Fantastic, bloody fantastic. Now we've got to pay mercenaries to get our stock back - they'll just shoot us on sight. Pretend you're coming in peace or something. There's 5 of them we're looking for. 60 caps for each each sound good?

Mesmerised (one shot)
Who are these Yanks wading into our turf. Someone needs to take them down a peg. Some hoity-toity Paladin came upon one of our trading caravans the other day, thought he'd just 'confiscate' our mesmetrons and collars. Something about 'tech in unsafe hands'. Nah. Let's teach this guy a lesson. We know one of their patrol roots, and we're putting the whole lot in chains. We're hiring mercenaries, preferably those with good ideas for setting an ambush, 50 caps per mercenary. They'll regret the day they crossed us.

High Grade Goods (one shot)
We're looking after a friend at the moment. Some American, won't even give his name - he's after a high profile slave that's escaped him. the goods are hidden away somewhere in The City of London, but here's the kicker; The Grenadier don't allow us lot in there, and our friend isn't going in without back up. We need someone to recover the goods, or trick them into leaving the city. Lot of caps riding on this one, we're willing to give a 200 cap share to the party that can help our friend find his target.

===The Grenadier===

The City of London, the city within the city, is one of the most remarkable areas in the world. This small, walled part of London has existed longer than the English royal family and predates even the Romans. They have a mayor, (The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of London) and a crazy organisational system. Even a nuclear war couldn't stop this city from continuing on, they saw the fall of Rome, the execution of Charles II and the restoration of Charles III and they trudge on. With The Tower of London and Tower Bridge under their control, they strive to leave what they believe was the pre-war way of life. Tea parties, cricket matches, silly hats and the phrase 'Tally-Ho' come high on their agenda.

Volunteer Guard Duty (Repeatable)
Hi, My name is 'Hot Shot' Harry, and I guard the metro tunnel just across the road from our city. As you might know, there's no way from the south-bank of the city or from the Scar without passing through this place. If you feel like helping me out for a few hours I'd very much appreciate it. You're welcome to scavenge anything we kill, and I'll put in a good word about you around the city but I can't offer any pay.

Lost Property, (Lost Properly) (one shot, potential player conflict/pvp)
There's a post the slavers have left here, about getting back some poor defenceless slaves that managed to escape them. Please, you must help them. How can we ever rebuild this nation's old glory when people are treated so shamefully. Help them escape their current hold-up and get to The City of London and I for one will be forever grateful. Just accept the Slaver's mission, but then don't return the slaves to them. remember; Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves, Britons never ever ever ever shall be slaves.

Shooting Gallery (One shot)
We're looking for skilled mercenaries to clear the ruin of National Portrait Gallery of Raiders. We'd ideally like to then send in our own men to recover pre-war paintings and photographs of important British figures, so careful combat is necessary. We are willing to pay each Mercenary 30 caps, with a 30 cap bonus if the gallery is left in good condition.

Fox Hunt (Passive)
Back in the old days, a pass time of the upper class was a good old fox hunt - from what we understand it was practically a way of life. Back then, apparently, foxes were smaller than dogs, can you imagine? Nowadays, fox hunting is a much more dangerous pass time, but we still use their hides to make our Freeman's hats. The Grenadier greatly appreciate any fox hides you can spare. Sorry, but we're unable to offer payment.

===New Parliament===

New Parliament strive to bring order, law and democracy back to England, their propaganda can be found everywhere and seems innocent enough, friendly even. But rumours of secret bases and weird experiments have reached the ears of most people in the city, and the hatred between them and the Brotherhood of Steel also feels sinister. Politicians aren't usually trusted any more... could this group be an exception?

Site Clean Up (One shot)
New Parliament prides itself as being the nation's greatest contributor to the sciences, unfortunately, a recent experiment has gone quite badly wrong, and requires a brave team willing to help clean up the site. Those interested should meet with Officer Phillips at the site indicated below this posting. Due to confidentially we cannot disclose any more details at this time, other than that this will be an extremely dangerous task that only the most skilled of mercenaries should attempt.

High Rise Treason! (One shot) (Solomon's Kingdom)
PUNY HUMANS HELP US. BROTHERS OF US NOT OUR BROTHERS NO MORE. THEY LEAVE KINGDOM. THEY TAKE STUFF WE NEED. THEY HIDE IN TALL BUILDING WHERE MANY MAN CARRY MACHINES ARE. YOU KILL THEM. YOU TAKE STUFF BACK AND GIVE TO US AND --the phrase 'we not eat you' has been crossed out here-- WE PAY YOU 300 CAPS.

Quest failed on 23/06/17. Bandit, Mia and Freckles tore through the Super Mutants defensive forces, but were ultimately bested by a Super Mutant Overlord with a room rigged full of mini nukes. Seeing no way to disable him, the party let him go, failing to recover the wanted equipment.

Democracy Delivered (one shot) New Parliament
A small settlement called Shacksville in the south of the city is the latest to decided it wants to accept government rule and become one of the tax-paying, military protected settlements in our great nation. Due to a shortage of staff, we are looking to recruit a team of mercenaries to meet with the mayor of the this town and help him evict the undesirables and squatters living there. The pay is 50 caps per mercenary.

Quest Failed on 20/6/17. by Bandit, Mia, Dan and Gadget. Dex and Grace left before things got too nasty. Upon arriving in the town, the party weren't very happy the the people the mayor wanted evicted were mostly ghouls. A fight broke out. Some of the players shot each other, and some shot the mayor. New Parliament aren't very happy about it and no one got paid.

What? This is an Anarchy! (one shot) (West Minster)
I don't normally write this sort of thing but... I don't know what else to do. See, the other day I was just out at the markets and this junkie bastard off his face on physco comes rushing at me and my girlfriend with a knife drawn. Before I know it she's been stabbed three times and her bag's been snatched. "What? This is an anarchy!" the junkie shouts at me as he begins to run away. I was startled... didn't want to fire my gun into a crowd... he got away. But I got a good look at the guy. 5"6', blond hair, blue eyes, big tatoo of a deathclaw on the back of his neck. He'll probably be at the marker again tomorrow; I want him dead. This is an anarchy, after all. Bring back proof of his demise and I've got 200 caps waiting.

Quest Completed 16/6/17 by Bandit, Mia and Dex. Who tracked the target to the market, poisoned him with a modified psycho injection, accidentally started a riot, murdered some innocent guards - then chased their fleeing target down an alley.
