THE CITY

Faudree is one of four large farming/fishing cities on the mainland of Bulund. All counted, including children, the city holds nearly 5,000 Intelligent lives, and so the maps should take this into consideration, despite the scale.

THE BACKGROUND

Faudree was the first of the Fertile Plains cities, and it existed as an independent settlement for nearly a century before the first King of Bulund, long before the reign of the current Bos Tau family, approached the inhabitants concerning citizenship. The large unwalled city grew but remained only moderately useful to the kingdom until King Bos Tau I declared Faudree to be the official port city of Bulund.

Known mainly for its Red River Port and docks, Faudree today is a sprawling city combining the business of trade, agriculture, industrialism, and fishing to make it a sort of mecca in Bulund. As the official port city of the country, Faudree is the only place Avontuur Shipping & Trade will sail into.

The city is broken into large quadrants based on the settling of people over time; First Settlement, Western Banks, Docks and Port, New Faudree, and The Herds.

THE LOCATIONS

( = ) The First Settlement ( imgur.com/a/r7cmM ): The First Settlement, now a mixture of overgrown streets and fortified wooden houses, signifies Man's first attempt at civilization this close to the Elklands Forest. Centuries old, the First Settlement was witness to the worst of the Elklands wildlife until the city grew large enough to hold the Wilds back. Today, very few live in First Settlement, and those who do are the kind of folks who don't mind the frequent invasion of wildlife.

( = ) Western Banks ( imgur.com/a/4G3lM ): The Western Banks house some of Faudree's oldest fishing and farming families, as well as Bull's Grove, a large freshwater pond. Small cottages dot the coast and outer farmlands with well worn dirt paths leading into the eastern parts of the City.

( = ) Bull's Grove, Western Banks: This large freshwater pond is often used as an irrigation reservoir, swimming hole, watering hole, and occasionally the aquatic stage for Faudree's Festival Lights, a fireworks display put on each year during Festival by a few Gnome families from Dracos.

( = ) Faudree Docks and Red River Port ( imgur.com/a/PC09x , imgur.com/a/9gBEs ): Faudree's docks were, for a long time, crudely constructed wooden piers meant only for small personal fishing vessels. It wasn't until King Bos Tau I decalred Faudree the official port of the continent, that the old docks were updated and built to Avontuur Shipping & Trade's official code, which, being Dwarven, was of a much higher degree of complexity. The first ships into port carried several Dwarven workers who took up residence in the city and built Faudree's official AS&T headquarters for the country.

( = ) New Faudree ( ): New Faudree is the central sector of the city where the wealthy reside, including the city's Lord Perrim, a middle-aged man adored by the populace as a fair judge and man of the people. New Faudree includes a few high end businesses as well as two fine taverns, but the main attraction is that which sits on the edge of New Faudree and The Herds; the Faudree Bazaar, a tapestry-lined complex of stalls, shops, and kiosks, practically a town in itself.

( = ) The Stables Inn and Tavern, New Faudree ( imgur.com/a/d8A46 ): The Stables is the newest and nicest tavern in Faudree by far. Frequented exclusively by the upper class and nobility of the City, The Stables is famous for its Bull's Blood Mead, a dark, thick liquid that can put even the strongest Man or Dwarf on his back. Recently, the owner of The Stables, Karl Hemms, has started selling his Bull's Blood to the other establishments in town, as Faudree has taken a turn for the better in regards to local economy. Now every citizen, no matter their social class, can experience the sweet succor of blackout inebriation at a fraction of the cost. Closest to the port and Ranger Outposts, The Stables has first choice of meat and fish, which owner and chef Gulric often pairs with fresh vegetables from nearby farms.

( = ) The Loosened Reins, New Faudree ( imgur.com/a/F5ItE ): Nestled in the middle class neighborhoods of Faudree is The Loosened Reins, the City's oldest tavern. Meant as a middle ground between the working class and nobility, the Loosened Reins got its start as a mead hall and meeting place during Faudree's primitive beginnings. The many wooden benches, smushed together to form long banquet tables, are now used by traders, tanners, and smiths for dice games and for spilling mead, of which there is plenty.

( = ) Faudree Bazaar ( imgur.com/a/xMGmD , imgur.com/a/QgLXj ): From the colorful tapestries overhanging the long wooden beams of the central market to the sturdy stone buildings of smiths and alchemists near the perimeter, Faudree's Bazaar is the most popular location outside of the Red River Port in all of Eastern Bulund. Traders and travelers toss trinkets and gold back and forth as the sounds of music, laughter, and the occasional argument compete for attention. Originally an open air market, the Bazaar grew when sailors or stowaways on Avontuur ships took up residence in the City. Much of the Bazaar's wild culture is a mixture of Dracos and Leonidan.

( = ) The Herds ( imgur.com/a/5W8mB ): The Herds is Faudree's lower class, lower income, and least considered sector of the city, though it houses the backbone of the city's industrial work force. Several dock workers, Bazaar shop owners, farmers, and even a few city Guards live in this mess of rickety wooden towers that butt up against each other over narrow cobbled streets.

( = ) The Drunken Swine Inn, The Herds ( imgur.com/a/zTrJ5 ): Fur-lined splintered benches, small cramped tables, and the rusty smell of damp blood from drying hides and weeks' old fistfights fill this raucous tavern at all times. The Drunken Swine is open round the clock and caters to the lowest classes of Faudree; citizens of The Herds, the Western Banks, and off duty guardsmen from Stoneside. The small rooms upstairs from the tavern have little in the way of amenities, but it's the cheapest place in town.

( = ) Stoneside Prison ( imgur.com/a/zmbnF ): The damp clustered cells underneath Faudree's small prison stretch hundreds of feet beneath Bulund's surface. At any given moment, the prison may hold as many as a thousand convicted criminals, though few of them are from Faudree. King Bos Tau II long ago decreed Faudree to be the proper place for a dungeon, having maxed the population of criminals in Taurus Keep's own cells. Nowadays, the Lord of Faudree stations a detachment of guards to Stoneside and charges them with the intake and upkeep of prisoners. It is not a coveted assignment.

( = ) Northern Keep, North Faudree ( imgur.com/a/ZFSjH ): Standing tall on the horizon, and walled off for miles in both directions, the Northern Keep is Bulund's northernmost guard tower and a watchful eye for the King against all intruders northeast of Faudree. The same guards who patrol the Red River Port and take watch in Stoneside have rotations in the Keep, meaning there is always a flow of armed men moving throughout the city itself.

( = ) Ranger Outposts, Northeast Faudree ( imgur.com/a/bkR0D ): The Faudree Ranger Outpost is known as such only to the citizens of Faudree itself, as the Elf and Half-Elf Rangers who live in the village call it by traditional Elven titles. The "Elklands Commune" is led by Father Lethoril, an old Elf who has seen a decent portion of Faudree's history from his hilltop lodge. The Elklands Riders are a group of Elven Rangers who patrol, hunt, and otherwise study the Elklands forest. Due to the natural secluded lifestyle of Elves, the Riders don't generally visit Faudree, nor does Father Lethoril. In fact, on most occasions, the only Rider to make it into Faudree is the representative of the Commune, and usually by request of Lord Perrim or order of Father Lethoril.
