Noxus: universe-meeps.leagueoflegends.com/v1/assets/image...
Noxus, the vast empire forged of a brutal warrior culture; a society based upon the highest degree of Social Darwinism. The strong survive and thrive, the weak are crushed underfoot. Founded on an ancient citadel, formerly inhabited by a nameless king from the Shadow Isles, the Noxian Empire has spread far and wide, wiping out cultures and peoples indiscriminately. Ionia was its most recent victim, the small and magical region now under the thumb of the Noxian war machine. The Noxian Empire is currently headed by Grand General Hendrick Cromwell, a seasoned veteran of war, and shining example of Noxian philosophy.

Demacia: nexus.leagueoflegends.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/...
Formerly a nation that rivaled Noxus's own, Demacia is now a small state, composed of some of the world's most valiant legions and commanders. Demacia was founded on anti-magic principles, and the walls of the capital city itself are forged in Petricite, a powerful magic nullifying stone. Demacia is currently ruled by King Desmond VII.

Ionia: universe-meeps.leagueoflegends.com/v1/assets/image...
Iona was once a peaceful and virtuous island continent, plentiful with magic and culture alike. From Ionia originated most forms of martial arts and magic, as well as strange animal creatures known as Vastaya, which have since spread across Runeterra. Recently, however, Ionia has been suppressed by Noxian rule, all sense of independence gone in favor of totalitarian dictatorship. Ionia is now under the rule of Governor Ty Katessel, though Ionia's ancient keepers of balance, The Kinkou Order, still appear to operate in the shadows...

Shurima: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images...
An empire in ruin, and deserts beyond measure. Shurima was once a great and powerful empire, one stretching multiple continents, and transcending borders. With the help of their godlike Ascended warriors, and Shurima's supreme tactics, the empire was at its peak. That was, until their Ascension rituals began to fail them. Shurima's great sun disk fell dark for the first time in history, the unworthy rulers and warriors fallen from the grace of their great and holy star. Hundreds of years later, their cities lay in ruin, and those that don't are ruled by ruthless merchant caravans, thirstier than desert mosquitos. False emperors lay claim to the throne of Shurima, though without an heir of true blood, there is naught else to turn to.

The Freljord: universe-meeps.leagueoflegends.com/v1/assets/image...
The Freljord is a land of ice and snow, a barren landscape speckled with some of the highest mountains in Runeterra. The frozen wasteland is inhabited my many peoples; some just trying to survive with what they were given, and others hungering for war and conquest, to forge out their place beyond the rim of the Freljord. The Freljord is currently ruled over by loose bands of barbarians, and some small townships.

Bilgewater: universe-meeps.leagueoflegends.com/v1/assets/image...
The pirate kingdom of Bilgewater, a land of docks and shipwrecks, a place where any can forge out their fortune, if they're ruthless enough. Gangs and crews roam the docks at night, preying on the weak and helpless, while others drink their lives away in the numerous taverns of the kingdom. Bilgewater is currently ruled by the Pirate King Leon Sendra.

The Shadow Isles: universe-meeps.leagueoflegends.com/v1/assets/image...
The Blessed Isles, once a place of angelic purity, a place of boundless magic, and even immortality. That which the Isles were known for was irreversibly twisted, corrupted in the event known only as the Ruination. For hundreds of years now, the once holy Isles have been blanketed in shadow, and plagued by the black mist that are their namesake. The undead thrive there, and cruelty unknown to the world at large transpires in their depths.

Piltover/Zaun: universe-meeps.leagueoflegends.com/v1/assets/image... , lolstatic-a.akamaihd.net/frontpage/apps/prod/pilto...
Twin cities, each in its own states of disrepair; some less visible than others. Piltover, the city of Progress; this is the title given to the outwardly utopian state, and it isn't entirely inaccurate. Scientific advancement in Piltover is hundreds of years ahead of the surrounding nations, and trade, the aristocracy and the arts are always booming. But this glamour and success hides a darker secret. Zaun. The dark side of Piltover, a ghetto of unrepentant scientific abomination and forced labor; a literal hell for most who live there. The Zaunites' labor isn't without benefit however, this is the requirement for Piltover's success. Piltover is ruled by an assortment of noble houses, and Zaun is loosely ruled by Chem Barons and their cronies.

Bandle City: pm1.narvii.com/6149/60bed1b9a3588e70db39bd7301a4a6...
Amidst the turmoil and strife that is the rest of Runeterra, the Yordle capital known as Bandle City has remained as jubilant as ever, at least to an outsider's perspective. There, the Yordles live happily in their childish ways, trade and culture blossom, and they are untouched by the outside world.
