I am usually the DM in my group. I enjoy setting up games with an epic story in mind. Because of this, I ask the players to come up with back stories so I can incorporate them into my game. If a character is running from his/her past, it will catch up; if they have an ultimate goal in mind, they will learn how to accomplish it. I think of RPG's as cooperative storytelling games with puzzles and video game elements.
