Aldus, son of Guthrie

.

-- stands at the back door of Osric's home, a boot heel tapping nervously on the dirt, thumbs tucked into the leather sword belt hanging loosely around his waist, his brown eyes trained on a figure just out of sight beneath the overhead awning of the porch --

"Hanna said y'd say that. I swear it, on m'life, we're both comin' back. Y'seen the parchment. Priest at th'temple wrote it. He told us it says the same words I spoke in th'oath. Oz read it, too."

-- silence a few moments, before footsteps echo back into the home. A sigh and low curse comes from Aldus as he turns, kicking dirt onto more dirt as he walks with determined steps back to Osric, waiting at the path's edge --

"Guess we're off, then Oz. Went about s'well as when I told Pa."

-- a pause --

"Well, maybe a little better than when I told Pa. Y'sure you know how t'read the map? I can't get us much farther than two 'r three towns north jus' by mem'ry."

-- Aldus awaits Osric's response, pausing to allow his friend a moment to consult their map once more, looking back again at the house, scanning the doorways and windows with gritted teeth. There is no goodbye wave or well-wishing to be seen or heard --

"Hanna was right again." -- a whisper --

Maxim returns to the barn where he was born after several weeks away. The conversation he overhears between two hardened farmers makes it clear that the boys are no longer here.

Indeed, Aldus and Osric took off on La'an's day, but who knows where the duo went, or if the Incarnate will be able to find them now.

On La'an's day, Aldus and Osric left home, and travelled West towards Petersland, a journey expected to take five days. The first day passed without incident, as Osric practised his magic, feeling his goddess' power increase on her holy day.

That night he had a dream where he met an old Sondreki woman who said her name was Mother Niobe and she lived in Goldburrow. Osric awoke before he could learn much else.

On the second day of the journey, they came across a flipped chariot, and worked to set it upright. Osric used time magic to reverse the horse's injury, and therefore heal it.

--

Osric and Aldus feel like kings of the world as their chariot thunders down the road. In the distance they spot a small town, which Aldus thinks might be called Southmount. The duo can either turn to visit the town, to restock on supplies or gain information. Or continue to their intended destination.

Aldus, son of Guthrie

.

-- sits on the floor of the cramped chariot, holding his legs out in front of him, pointed toward the dust cloud behind them --

Oz, whaddya say we find out jus' how far Goldburrow is then see about selling th' wagon when we get there?

-- doesn't wait long for a response before continuing. Aldus is not keen on riding in this status of wealth any longer than he has to --

That *is* where we're goin' now, right? I mean, that's what th' star lady told ye.

-- squints into the dust before looking up once more --

This is gettin' weird already. Time-changin' and magic stars. Maybe somebody in Southmount mighta' heard of 'er.

Aldus turns the chariot to head up a small side-road into the town of Southmont. As they come to the edge of a town, they notice a Crowdorian Guard standing in the middle of the road, holding a halberd. There is a small stone watch tower on this side of the town, and another guard can be spotted on top of it.

"Now where did two young lads like yourselves get such an expensive vehicle?" Asks the halberd wielding guard.

Found it.

-- Aldus jerks his chin upward, acknowledging the question and challenging the accusatory tone, following up his answer with a lie --

We're headin' t' look fer the owner. Figure he's gonna want it back.

-- with every intention of selling the chariot and horse for personal gain, Aldus continues while lightly snapping the reins, causing the horse to move forward a few more paces --

Careful now, that y' don't get stepped on, sir.

-- a *polite* nod to the guard in an attempt to end the conversation there --

To Aldus' surprise, the guard laughs and quickly steps aside.

"Now, now, no need to get like that...

I know exactly how Luca Garcia's chariot got into town. The spoilt brat will just buy himself another one - with his father's money no more.

You want my advice? Loose the fancy paint job and house crest.. --gestures at a design on the paintwork, bearing a design that Aldus had over looked (Intelligence roll; [ ] ).--
... then tell the next guard who stops you that your pa's a carpenter, used to make 'em for the legion. "

The guard chuckles to himself, and winks at the boys as they drive into Southmount, which appears to ba a medium sized mining and smithing town, built on top of a small ore-rich hill. The town has a population beyond that of anything either Aldus or Osric have visited so far in their lives, and they are initially over whelmed at the sheer number of places they could visit; taverns, markets, smitheries of all sorts; apothecaries too, tailors, armourers, fortune tellers, and more. Where to visit first?
