Despite a dramatic set back, and the tragic loss of his friend Abe, Urik manages to find his way into the guild, and finish the heist on his own. Three days before any other dark hunter, he manages to see the contract that will change his life;
It would appear a lesser wrath demon has left the Rift for the first time in thirty years, this is a once in a life time contract, with a once in a life time pay check of twenty pounds! (4800 cp). Its last known whereabouts is listed as being a few days journey West of Northhollow. Urik has a head start, but the rest of the Dark Hunters will no doubt be after the same bounty in a few days!
Urik is not the only one to hear about the demon however.
The Right Honourable the Lord Protector Sir Anthony Warpole is the full name and styling of the leader of the Knights of the Order of the Crow. It is a matter of permanent relief to his men, that he prefers to be addressed simply as 'Warpole'. It is also a matter of relief to all men in Crowdor that this military veteran and tactical genius makes it his business to know of everything that could possibly threaten the Empire. Sir Avagon and Sir Oscar are minding there own business in the order headquarters when the news is announced of the escaped demon. Warpole is looking for volunteers to go on a noble quest to slay the foul creature. Who is brave enough to volunteer?
--As Urik stumbles out of the sewer entrance he used to get into the hall, he mutters "I'm sorry", feeling immensely guilty to have caused Abe's death, turning killing the Wrath Demon his objective now only in order to make Abe's death not in vain.--
A greater demon rising from the Rift is an uncommon occurrence, and it draws the eyes of many different societies. The last known position of the great and terrible creature was on the western side of the Rift, and this makes it a threat the delicately balanced Purelands. Thankfully, they have their best warrior on it.
Vraz'hir thunders across the Ashen Waste, his hooves kicking the ash below him up into a huge dust cloud. He has been galloping for three hours now, and will reach the demon's last known location before sunset. The huge Centaur is an intimidating sight, and not even the ogres are trying their luck today.
--Vraz'hir sharp eyes continously scan the horizon as he marches through the Ashen Waste. Given the lifevoid lands he is crossing, his remarkable size and the large trail of dust that follows him makes it easy to be spotted here out in the open.
He has never been the fastest, so more of a reason to be ready to react first if he catches the attention of something that may want to intercept him in the way to its objective, he thinks as he caresses the spear to his side and the longbow over his shoulder, making sure neither is too far in case a threat arises. He keeps on, compensating with his endurance and unrelenting gallop his lack of swiftness hoping he can reach the location where the demon was last known to be before the end of the day.--
Urik has a decision to make. Leave Northhollow immediately to maximise his head start over the other hunters. Or stay a while to gather equipment, do research or recruit a team.
Vraz'hir rolls for luck; [ ] [ * ] [ ] Despite the trail of dust he kicks up behind him, the Centaur does not draw any hostile attention. Likely because the sight of a huge, armoured and heavily armed Centaur is an intimidating sight to most Ogres or lesser demonic creatures. Using the stars as his compass, the Centaur soon comes to the last known location of the Greater Demon. The Rift itself is just visible on the horizon, but here in the Ashen waste a knew passage has been forged from that infernal pit. A great black abyss stretches below, and the Centaur shudders to think what foul things lie down there. Willpower roll; [ ] [ * ] [ ] [ ] The Centaur pulls his mind away from the Rift, which the eldest beings of the Purelands have cautioned him are known to infect the minds of men. He stays focus on the task at hand. The demon certainly broke through here... but where has it gone to?
--As he pulls his sight away from the rift Vraz'hir can't help about the possibilities of future trouble that open rift may cause, who knows when another wretched creature may come out of that abyss, but for now he should focus on finishing his task at hand.--
--He briefly looks back the way he came, observing the trail he has left behind, the dust still not fully settled down once more.-- oo I wonder if this demon is a large creature like me. It must surely have left some trace behind as these grounds are easily disturbed, assuming it travles overland...but its the best I have got right now oo --With this thoughts in mind, Vraz'hir starts to inspect the surrounding area thoroughly, hoping to find something that may point the direction of his next step on this journey to find his quarry--
-- Oscar looks to Warpole and volunteers to slay the demon, after leaving HQ he heads towards the last known location for clues as to where it went.
Beginning a quest isn't quite as simple as Oscar would like it to be. He approaches The Lord Protector, and expresses interest in the mission. Warpole asks him to attend a briefing tomorrow, along with any other knights that may volunteer.

As Vraz'Hir approaches the last known location of the demon, he spots two campfires in the far distance. Two others are in the Ashen Waste, here to track the Greater Demon. An Ogre, and a Dark Hunter.

Tusk'a begins to track this demon he has heard about... he walks across the familiar Ashen Waste for some time, seeing little of interest. Then he finds something... the corpse of a demon, a mangled wolf, squashed almost flat by some extreme force, the work of a demon hunter perhaps? (Intelligence roll: [ ] [ ]) He cannot be sure, but feels that this may be the right path. He wanders for another day before discovering two sets of fresh tracks through the ash. It appears a human is walking side by side with an enormous horse. The tracks lead towards the Arm of Ri - a large mountain range marking the Western edge of the wastes. Senses; [ * ] [ * ] [ * ] From a vantage point some distance away, Tusk'a spots two others who would sense the demon. A human and a Centaur travelling together, who have made camp at the base of the mountains. Vraz'hir and Talrin have not seen the Ogre yet.
As they are getting ready to finish their morning preparations and continue to chase after their prey, Vraz'hir tries to keep up the conversation, both because he is unused to the loneliness that the last days of travelling across the wastes have provided, and also because he can't help to be fascinated and intrigued by the opporunity to glean some information about other races and what trascends outside his homeland, both for practical reasons and simple curiosity.
"So...", he says to Talrin, "what do you plan to do if we succesfully complete this deed and you can collect your reward, what do you plan to do? Is there any place you are looking forward to settle down?"
--Talrin looks over at the centaur in surprise, then begins to speak.--
"If I survive, I'd like to go settle down in a small cabin somewhere. Be done with all the monster hunting and theft." --coughs slightly and briefly looks away, then rushes on, slightly stuttering-- "Being around other people's thieving habits, I mean. Try to be autonomous. I don't want to deal with the rest of humanity. Too many bad memories and experiences. What about you?"
Vraz'hir is finishint to inspect his spear, making sure its in perfect conditions, as he listens to the human before answering.
"So you choose to live alone..." --he strokes his beard thinking-- "Curious choice, though I guess given what you have told me. As for me, well only La'an knows where my fate may lead, but unless anything unexpected happens I assume I will return to the purelands and resume my usual duties as one of her guardians. Its my purpose, after all." Please log in to add a comment. |
