Everything you need to know to play the game Slumberville here in Oman's Realm :)
Story and Introduction
Four hundred years ago - the Demons came. Portals opened in the south, and every full moon they rose, destroying whatever they could find. Eventually, a group of villages set in gaps between a mountain range were able to hold them back, and the demons retreated back to hell. Now the portals have reopened, and the villages that once held than off have been abandoned for hundreds of years - it is said demonic evil still lurks in the south and corrupted every settlement upon the mountain border. Currently, only demonic scouts poke at the kingdom's defences, but boon, large demonic armies will rise and threaten everyone! Coincidently, your village, the one you and the other players have lived in all your lives, was recently destroyed in a flood, and it's lord - lord Giles perished. The Queen has offered a deal - the refugees can have new lands to farm and live in, and access to all that land's facilities... if they take up residence in one of the old villages along the demonic border. Reluctantly, figuring they had a sufficient number of soldiers and local town heroes, the village accepted and relocated. Upon arrival, they soon found why the place had been abandoned. A strange curse causes may of the village's residents to sleep for days on end! In honour of this, they named the village 'Slumberville!' Build, survive, thrive... and leave no demons alive.
Character Creation
You are party of a medieval society, the village only needs so many sword-wielding, badass heroes! The villages needs labourers, artisans and other important roles filling, as the party will need an adequate food supply, and all the right gear if they are to effectively hold back the demons. Some party members need to be skilled in combat, whilst others need to be miners, lumberjacks, farmers, fishermen, hunters, smiths or other supportive roles. Within this guideline, character creation is to standard fabletop rules - 2 custom traits, base traits adding to 7 etc. Remember that your health and power both refresh by 50% at the start of each new session that you are in.
Items
Items play an important role in this game - sometimes it may be impossible to do a task with the correct tool (trying to cut down a tree with a sword or your bear hands!) and other times it may be possible, but not idea (e.g. a miner trying to kill a demon with his pick-axe) In a nutshell: Not having the right tool will either deduct a star from your roll or prevent you from doing certain actions all together. Every character gets a set amount of starting gear based upon their traits - the other items will need to be crafted by the players. This will often take multiple workers (e.g. making a sword might need a miner to collect the ore AND a smith to shape the metal properly)
Magic
Mages are allowed in this game, however, as magic is a very powerful tool that is ideal for almost every action ALL uses of magic of ANY kind, no matter how trivial, require the use of a power point. Mages are therefore limited to a few spells per day and may wish to pursue a secondary area as well.
Time
An in game day, (usually 1 session) takes 1.5 hours. This is divided into 45 minutes for the morning and the after noon. Every third day there is a full moon, and every full moon demons will attack the town that night. Every seven days, the season changes. Seasons affect what kinds of weather occurs, and how long crops take to grow.
Weather
Every morning, and every afternoon, (and every night if there is an attack) a new kind of Weather is generated. Some weathers may help the party whilst others may hinder them. Rain might be useful to water your plants for you, but strong winds may interfere with an archer's ability to shoot straight. There is even a small chance of the weather being supernatural and magical in nature, leading to some bizarre effects (some helpful and some harmful!) Be careful out there!
Food and Starvation
Everyone begins with 2.0 food. At the end of every session, decrease your food by 1.0. If this puts you down to 0, starvation begins! The first day in which you are starving, you take 1 damage, on the second day you take 2 damage etc. this continues until you starve to death or eat again. Different things have different food values. Whole cooked animals are usually worth 3 to 6 food, whilst small fruits and vegetables may only be worth 0.25 food. Please log in to add a comment. |
