Feel free to do *anything* you want, within reason. You wanna melee? Why the hell not? Use earth magic to form a maul, and blunt-force-trauma your foes to oblivion. Use alchemy to transmute a spear, and kebab them. Heck, conjure a sword out of fire and burn them.
Want to manipulate elements? Sure. Summon spirits? Why not? Necromancy? Go ahead. Evocation magic fuelled by unwavering faith in your god/goddess/devil/Lovecraftian horror/Chaos? Be my guest. Any form of magic (even those lifted from anime, video games, books) can be proposed. Think CREATIVELY!
Note: GM/Geem/Yours truly retains veto rights. For balancing purposes. Nope, you are not gonna be able to pull a Sephiroth and Meteor the world. For one, that's OP. Also, that will automatically end the game, kill EVERYONE (including yourself), and wipe the game realm from the plane of existence. Now, that wouldn't be fun, right? RIGHT? ^ ^
Finally, I am NOT gonna let you break the economy. So nope. No summoning/creating/poofing money. They are not permanent. You won't want to. The merchants will be *really* pissed off. And, for all you Fullmetal Alchemist fans out there. Transmutation, you say? Nope! That leaves marks. Which would indicate counterfeiting. Which will get you in trouble. Just, don't.
