FT Stuffs Opinions

kierbrony Aug '16
Chello, everyone.

Recently, there has been quite a lot of stuff that has made Fabletop much harder to enjoy without an arguement ensuing or someone getting frustrated.

I don't really like giving my two-cents on many subjects, especially the internet, but I dunno'. I feel it needs to be written somewhere, and hopefully in the future, be looked back upon as a reminder of stuff that went on. I intend to post more issues/opinions of mine that pop-up in the future.

Without further ado, here's my thoughts on a few things:

The Glade

Over the past month or so, the glade has become very hostile. Not all the time, however, but even still it has definitely changed for the worse. It used to be a fun place where users could joke around, talk about their problems, get opinions on games, and more while they waited for a host to start a game.

Now, it is only part of what is described above, with some spammers, admin-wannabe's, and the "emote" issue. (The emote issue is where some believe that using --example-- often should not be allowed in the glade.)

I personally don't like the glade now, and others have started creating their own glade in their tables just so that they can have the freedom to do what they like.

Newbies

New players are always welcome in Fabletop, and should be consistently encouraged to join and participate in games. But, for some strange reason, it seems to me that some newbies that have come to be on FT often are very rude, don't follow FT rules, or otherwise.

On top of that, those few newbies that DO happen to follow the rules and be generally nice are drawn away from FT due to the arguements, unfriendliness, and absurdity in the Glade.

I'm not really sure what can be done about it, but again, I think it needs to be said.

Frost Inactivity

Frost, or the creator of FT, doesn't update, check-in, or participate in his website as much as I think he should. I'm not saying he has valid reasons, but it feels like he's never around, and if he is, he doesn't do much when here.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I know much about him or his situation, but again, it feels kinda' empty on the site when there hasn't been many new things going on.

That's all I gotta' say about that. Feel free to completely ignore, hate, or agree with my opinions. Have a nice day. ^_^

Have I really been gone for FT that long, that so much has changed? I remember the happy place you describe like it was barely yesterday, heck I remember when I was a new here like it was barely an hour ago.

While I am hardly a seasoned Veteran of Fabletop like many of you, and despite that I have been absent for some time, I do recognise some of the points Kierbrony is making. The Glade is an issue I was unaware of but I have seen some mistreatment of new players, or mistreatment by said players, however I always remember it being resolved relatively quickly. I also remember big blow outs with members who shall not be named here, but again it always felt like those experiences were in the minority.

I do have to agree on the issue of Frost however. I have never seen him online myself, and it takes one look at the updates section of the site to see the slight neglect that seems to be taking place. I mean no offence of Frost, as I have never met him and so can't pass any sound judgement. But the fact that in all my time on this site I have never met him. That worries me.

Why am I taking the time to write all this? Because I love this site for what it tried to accomplish, and for what it means to me. I came to Fabletop far from its inception, or even heyday from the stories I hear. Yet I was welcomed, and I had some of the best experiences of my introverted creative life with the community here. The last thing I want to see is the decline and, Heaven forbid, the fall of Fabletop. I say all this because in my short time here, I believe I've earned the respect of many members of the community, and I hope the shared respect this community has for me, Kierbrony, and it's self, can help keep this site alive. Kierbrony has taken the first step to correction, which is admiting the fault. I hope all of you can help to take the next step, doing something about it.
