-SPOILER ALERT BELOW-

Allright... this will take a while... --sighs--

Let us start with the basics of the concept of magic here:

Elements. There are uncountable amounts, new ones are being found quite often. Well, not so often anymore, new elements nowadays only appear like... twice a year? Maybe?

One's element can easily be found out with a simple colour chart:
you point at a colour, and the professors tell you the element. If in any case you have a yet unknown element, the professors will usually just stand around blinking, trying to figure out your element. Which you will propably only find out once you are attempting magical spells.

Three numbers to keep in mind:
Magical rigidity: rigidity is a set number you are born with, it determites how resistant you are to magic, but also determites how hard it is for you to shape and unlock your hidden abilities
Magical affinity: like rigidity, it is a number every person is born with, it is around 1-3 on average people, and 4-7 on magic users. It is on a scale of 10, with 10 being the most ever perceived. There is currently no known alive person with a score of 10. There is one person known om the other hand with a surprisingly high 9 points, being the assistant of the chairman

Magical enlightenment: a not-so-countable scale, which increases with the more magical energy you contain, the more spells you know, and the better you can control your energies

Some additional terms:

Discharge: a complex event, where someone builds up too much mana without using it at all, causing the collected up mana to "explode", causing much energy to flow into the air and the area, with different effects on the nearby terrain. The magical self of the person will take over mostly, causing the person to gain high levels of amnesia and loss of control over their own self, becoming not-so-like the original person

Outburst: similiar to discharge, but happens to magical users who conciously build up too much mana, even by accident, causing them to lose conciousness, and their magical self to partially and temporarily take over them. This is more often but has much less effect on discharged people, as they are already under control by their magical self
