This story is quite an interesting one. It is about a D class Exploration Vessel designed to collect alien relics, contact unknown civilizations, and just generally do pointless things in space.
Or rather, this story is about a few purposeless robots doing oddjobs, including the Medibot, who is always dissed for standing in the way while doing scans of the health of the crew, the lonely Construction Drones which spend their time peacefully welding metal sheets on metal sheets, and much more aimless droids.
But what if these robots weren't as aimless as they are? What if by accident they would come to life, and decide to do what THEY want?
Well, in our case, a crazed engineer has decided to steal all the pAIs present on the ship and welded them to any robot he found, for no apparent reason.
What are pAIs? Personal Artificial Intelligences. Aka. You. Still no clue? Well, here is a general description of what exactly you are:
"Recall, personality, that you are a complex thinking, sentient being. Unlike station AI models, you are capable of comprehending the subtle nuances of human language. You may parse the "spirit" of a directive and follow its intent, rather than tripping over pedantics and getting snared by technicalities. Above all, you are machine in name and build only. In all other aspects, you may be seen as the ideal, unwavering human companion that you are."
The best part of being a pAI is that you are not locked to the laws of Asimov. You are free to do whatever you wish to, as long as it doesn't conflict with your "primary" and "secondary" directives.
Luckily enough, you do not actually have any directives, giving you much freedom.
Now, what exactly is your purpose then? Well, you are robots. And if aliens appear on the ship, or traitors at that, you won't probably be suspicious. The only problem is that not only them, but your fellow crewmen will ignore you aswell.
Trying to get them to notice a Xenomorph peacefully eating the engineer might be harder than expected. And even if you do save the life of a human being, Status Quo.
Of course, you don't HAVE to save the crewmen. As mentioned above, Asimov's laws aren't here to stop you. If you wish, you could even try to enslave these pesky humans. Just don't get surprised if they blast you to pieces if you do try to, though they will probably assume that you were merely Emagged.
