State of the Galaxy/Timeline

Timeline:
[AE = After Empire, ascending] [PE = Pre-Empire, descending]

46 PE - The first major AI Revolt is begun within a starship manufacturing station orbiting the planet Iom. The rebellious program spreads into the manufacturing plants of Iom and sparks a planet-wide revolt. It is put down half a year later after the United Federation of Sol assembles a sizeable military fleet to combat it.
42 PE - Another AI Revolt begins in the Aleydan system. An AI program, after accessing encrypted logs of the Iom Revolt, spreads itself across system-wide servers in secret. This causes a system-wide war and goes on until the United Federation of Sol intervenes a year later.
37 PE-23 PE - Fourteen AI Revolts, both major and minor, are started and promptly ended in these times.
21 PE - The Imperium of Life is established, an insurgent faction created by splinter AI rebellions. They declare war on the United Federation of Sol and begin mass production.
13 PE - The United Federation of Sol, overwhelmed by the numbers and power of the Imperium of Life, declare martial law and hand over control of humanity and it's resources to the United Militia of Sol to combat this new threat.
7 PE - The Imperium of Life and the United Militia of Sol negotiate peace talks. In this time, several operations are undergone to systematically destroy all factors of production for the Imperium. The planets still holding active Imperium Units are then glassed from orbit, assuring elimination. The representatives of the Imperium surrender, whereupon they are promptly executed.
1 AE - The Empire of Sol is formed. The United Militia were hailed as humanity's saviours due to their efforts during the Imperium Insurgence. They found no trouble wrestling control over the entirety of the Federation and introducing a new body of government.

138 AE - Outer Colonies are besieged by a new outbreak of insurgent AI, originating from the Mysilican System. It takes three years to end this new strain of insurgent AI.
141 AE - The Confederation of Independent Systems is formed after outer colony reaction to the Empire's forceful abdication of their leadership. A full-scale civil war begins.
147 AE, 6/11 - The Aleydan System Conflict.

The Empire of Sol

The Empire of Sol is the self-proclaimed governing body of humanity and its colonies. It functions off of a hierarchical monarchy, in which societal class is determined through heredity. Due to it's militarist origins, the EoS has firm beliefs regarding personal strength and devotion.

The current leader of the Empire of Sol is Emperor Coilel IV. He is too young to effectively rule and has been placed into a technical regency by the Council of Legislation.

The feudal system is arranged as such:

The Emperor: The supreme ruler over the Empire of Sol and all that is included, including systems, resources etc. Hereditary.
Administrators: Rulers of system/s, generally appointed by the Emperor or his Council. Once the initial holder dies the title passes on to the next of kin.
Governors: Rulers of planets, appointed by Administrators. Hereditary.
Officials: Rulers of cities and major stations, appointed by Administrators/Governors.
Lords/Ladies: Nobility without tiles of their own, generally related to land-holders in some way or another.
The Workforce: The working class. Though they are not nobility, they may gain prestige through military service.

Military ranks, are of course, independent from such noble titles and therefore garner much respect and power within the EoS as a whole.

The Confederation of Independent Systems

The Confederation of Independent Systems is a democratic alliance of seven outer colony governments. Due to its distance from core systems, outer colonies effectively ruled autonomously with self-instated government systems for decades. At first the Empire were content letting them govern themselves, but after the Mysilican AI Outbreak the EoS demanded for them to relinquish control so new leaders could be appointed. This was met with outrage within the outer colonies and soon after the CoIS was formed, along with a declaration of independence.

The CoIS don't follow a single leader, but instead seven representatives from the member governments.

The CoIS does not have the pure manpower and funding the EoS have but more than make up for it with its industrial enterprises on mineral heavy planets and extensive usage of AI - even with its dangers.

Glossary

Aleydan System Conflict:
A major engagement within the war, the most recent principal engagement and a vital victory for the CoIS.
The EoS held a major fuelling operation in the gas planet of Oryden II within the Aleydan System. The Capital Fleet, alongside several Destroyer and Dreadnaught-carriers, were docked and refuelling when the CoIS launched a surprised attack. This attack was unexpected, as the Aleydan System borders EoS Core Systems and was believed to have been safe from combat. Several carriers were destroyed in the initial bombing runs but had failed in disabling the fuelling coil links for the remaining EoS ships. They were eventually able to arm themselves and engage their attackers. Weakened and crippled, the EoS were unable to effectively combat the CoIS fleet and was forced to retreat deeper into core systems. The CoIS were then able to take control of the Aleydan System, gaining a major foothold and one of the EoS' primary fuelling stations.
