Dice/Star Ratios, Damage calculation

ladysarin Feb '18
In the game Legends, combat success is determined not by who rolls more stars.. but by the percentage of power was behind their effort. Not everyone rolls the same amount of dice for attacking and defending against one another, so each level of skill is broken down to it's actual rate below for visual understanding.

1 dice, 1 star = 100%.
2 dice, 1 star = 50%.
3 dice, 1 star = 33%.
4 dice, 1 star = 25%.
5 dice, 1 star = 20%.
6 dice, 1 star = 16%.
7 dice, 1 star = 14%.
8 dice, 1 star = 12%.
9 dice, 1 star = 11%.
10 dice, 1 star = 10%

Example 1 of this style of calculation in combat would be if you took someone who rolls 5 dice for an attack and gets 3 stars (20+20+20).. against someone who rolls 3 dice for defense and gets 2 stars (33+33). The Attacker got a 60% success.. while the Defender got a 66% success.. so in this situation, the Defender has fended off the attack.

Example 2 of this style of calculation in combat, we will keep the roll information the same, but switch the Attacker and Defender's places. Now the Attacker has 3 dice and rolls 2 stars for the attack (66%), while the defender has 5 dice and rolls 3 stars for the defense (60%). In this situation, the Attacker has succeeded in their attack, while the Defender fell short of their block or evasion.

So now let's move on to Damage Calculation. Using the information from Example 2, we see that the Attacker got 2 stars, and the Defender got 3 stars. Damage is determined by however many stars are overflow. In this case, 3-2=1, so the Defender would take 1 hp damage.

What about higher tier weapons? Yes, they exist.. Starter weapons (tier 1) deal 1hp of damage per star of overflow. Each tier higher does that many points of damage per star, so Tier 2 does 2hp damage per star, Tier 3 does 3hp damage per star, etc.

What about healing? Healing works much the same way, however healers simply heal 1hp per star, AFTER their success is determined.

For all magic user classes, (Healer, Magus, Spellsword, Arcane Archer) anything under 40% is a failed casting.

Moons and Skulls

This is a simple section.

Moon = 1 star
Skull = 1 star

If an attacker rolls a moon, the defender will be hit without a block being possible, and the full damage of visible stars will be issued to the defender.

If a defender rolls a moon, the attacker's strike will automatically be blocked, and the overflow of stars (if any) will be issued to the attacker.

If an attacker rolls a skull, the defender will automatically block without needing to roll, and the full damage of visible stars will be issued to the attacker as an automatic counter attack from the defender.

If a defender rolls a skull, the attacker's strike will automatically succeed, and the overflow of stars (if any) will be issued to the defender.

Now, what if they both get a skull? Or if they both mooned?
